Yes it's easier to turn a storage shed into a living space, than most people think. Even a small building can be easily converted.
What you need:
1. Insulation - Install the best insulation possible to reduce energy expense
2. Install the wiring and electrical outlets, lights, etc. Separate breakers in order to prevent electric problems later.
3. Install drywall or concrete board onto the walls. Remember that small spaces build condensation easier than larger spaces. Concrete board over the walls will prevent the condensation from building in smaller spaces.
4. Install, or have someone else install, waterproof flooring. Any leaks can be harmful to your flooring, so waterproof flooring in any home is essential.
Use your space wisely in all your portable buildings, considering storage in every potential area, along the walls instead of making rooms for closets that "walk in". Keeping the shelving units faceing the outside of the living space, is the best use of space. Or, a wall with shelves on the outside of the back of the kitchen or bedroom walls is also a great idea for use of space. Not only are there walls, but they can double for storage too!
Purchase or build lofts in your portable buildings. A loft area is a great use of upstairs space. Your portable buildings manufacturers will build a ladder or staircase to the upper area. It's a cool, awesome way to expand the use of your space.
Or, you can take the upstairs loft area, and dry wall it to look like a cathedral ceiling. In either case, portable buildings make a great living space. When you get ready to turn a storage shed into living space, try all our ideas. You'll be happy you did!
